Passive House
First two certified Passive Houses to be built in Petersfield
Our development of eight new build houses in the centre of Petersfield, Hampshire, two of the houses on this development are going to be certified Passive House dwellings. Situated in the South Downs National Park, the development of seven houses and two offices, is close to the mainline train station and a short walk from town centre shops, bars and restaurants.
What is a Passive House?
Passive house is a rigorous, voluntary standard for energy efficiency in a building, reducing its ecological footprint. It results in ultra-low energy buildings that require little energy for space heating or cooling.
Achieving the major decrease in heating energy consumption required by the standard involves a shift in approach to building design and construction.
In addition to using passive solar gain, Passivhaus buildings make extensive use of their intrinsic heat from internal sources—such as waste heat from lighting, white goods (major appliances) and other electrical devices (but not dedicated heaters)—as well as body heat from the people and other animals inside the building. This is due to the fact that people, on average, emit heat equivalent to 100 watts each of radiated thermal energy.
Together with the comprehensive energy conservation measures taken, this means that a conventional central heating system is not necessary.
Imagine living in a comfortable, modern house with no temperature variations from room to room, and very low space heating and cooling costs.
Passive houses also provide a healthy and quiet indoor environment, as well as excellent indoor air quality.
